Originally kept at an agricultural college's "Pizza Farm" as the precursor example of sausage, Christina was slated to be slaughtered at he end of the program, yet through compassionate intervention her release to Animal Acres was secured. The Drama Queen of the sounder was Christina’s affectionate title. She jealously and vocally guarded her personal space from pig and human, and whenever someone who outranked her would claim her spot, Christina’s protesting squeals and shrieks could be heard sanctuary-wide. A master of the stink-eye, Christina conveyed more personality with one look than many humans could hope to manage.

Rescued from a Los Angeles area facility, Mr. Ed might have been used as the breeding bull for a small, cramped herd of Brahman cattle. He arrived with scars on his back and an intense dislike for humans. His formidable presence awed visitors to the sanctuary, but it wasn’t until many years after his arrival that Mr. Ed began to accept attention from his caregivers. The beloved leader of the Acton cattle herd for a decade, the trauma he endured finally unwinding was a beautiful thing to behold: once when he would have tossed his head warningly at caregivers near his space, he instead would lower his head, asking for scratches and massages.

Farm Sanctuary was founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals. Today, Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s largest and most effective farm animal rescue and protection organization.
