Buffy and Lucy came to Peaceful Fields because of the increasingly problematic trend of backyard chicken keeping. Many people, in an effort to be more self-reliant, think that by buying chicks from places like Tractor Supply Co (where Buffy and his three brothers were) they are defying the system; however they directly support the system of cruelty for chickens because these places buy their chicks from the same hatcheries that supply factory farms, and very few places are zoned for roosters. Lucy’s humans abandoned she and her flock because of a move that did not consider being able to continue caring for the girls, yet another unfortunately common problem with backyard flocks. At Peaceful Fields Buffy and Lucy get to explore and be social with one another and the humans who care for them, all while be respected as individuals.

Abandoned on a property in Winchester, Heidi very well might have starved to death. A tragically common occurrence with farm animals is that they will be left to fend for themselves if their human guardians must leave their property. Sometimes only bodies are found, but fortunately for Heidi she was rescued in time, and her depleted and parasite-ridden body has been able to heal. Once safe, Heidi’s friendly personality blossomed as she settled in to her new goat and human family at Peaceful Fields.

Sweet Pea was due to spend her life as a dairy goat: impregnated so her body would make milk, her babies taken from her so they would not use the milk meant for them, with this cycle repeated until her body failed to produce enough milk, at which point she would likely be auctioned for cheap meat or merely discarded like trash. However a kind couple pulled Sweet Pea and her buddy Buster from this life, and then brought them to Peaceful Fields Sanctuary. There Sweet Pea has proven to be an outgoing and lovable friend to humans and her herdmates.
