The Savannah Piglets

The Savannah Piglets

Rooterville, A Sanctuary, Melrose, Florida

Abandoned on a foreclosure property in the Savannah area, these six piglets (Dora, Boots, Popeye, Humperdinck, Savannah, Sweetpea) and their mother Tallulah, along with many dogs, were left by the humans responsible for them to starve to death. Luckily neighbors took action and got authorities involved. All the dogs were placed, but no one stepped up to take the pigs. Rooterville was able to accept the family, get the girls and momma spayed, the boys neutered, and immediate medical attention for two of the boys with issues likely caused from malnutrition. From neglect to love, now the family will get to live in peace at sanctuary.

Chewey

Chewey

Rooterville, A Sanctuary, Melrose, Florida

Chewey was seized from a hoarder in Muse, Florida and came to live at Rooterville many years ago. As a senior sanctuary resident he follows the Florida model, finding a quieter pace of life with a smaller sounder of potbelly pigs in one of the sanctuary “retirement” areas where he doesn’t have to compete with the larger and more active pigs. Chewey’s inquisitiveness remains keen however, and he makes it a habit of inspecting human visitors, volunteers, and caregivers, but his curiosity does not often include belly rubs – he prefers to observe from afar with his intense, piercingly blue eyes, just out of reach of humans.
