About the Archive

By nature of the momentary photographic documentation of a place and residents living at sanctuaries, the entirety of my Yoga Animalia Project itself is a form of archiving of the individuals who make up this niche community of the animal rescue and animal rights world. I have often found that the portraits I create become archived memories of individuals who die but remain vital members of the larger community to which they belong. Sometimes this is even reflected in the name of the organization, such as River’s Wish Animal Sanctuary in Spokane, Washington, which is named for River dog who helped inspire the founders’ lifelong commitment to animal rescue.

The images gathered in this archive space currently document physical locations that were once sanctuary locations, but which, for a variety of reasons, have been closed and or sold.

Mission Statement

The Yoga Animalia Project aims to present nonhuman, formerly farmed animals as individuals, and by extension the archive attempts to celebrate and remember these individuals and the sanctuary locations where they reside in safety.

How to Use the Archive

The Yoga Animalia Project Archive gathers images from the larger project of sanctuary locations that have shifted to new properties as a way of collecting a small part of the larger sanctuary movement history. Images within the archive are copyrighted but non-commercial use may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Please email Cameron with questions.
